5 Cost Effective Ideas to Refresh Your Space
As we find ourselves spending more time indoors than ever before, we're discovering that our homes are four walls of endless possibility. Whatever your new normal looks like, you can find the balance you need by refreshing your sanctuary – your home. But redecorating your home can cost a lot, get messy and take a lot of time. And these are all things we all want to avoid, especially as the cost of living looms over us.
That’s why we put together this quick list of ideas to refresh your space without breaking the bank or getting messy with painting or hanging wallpaper. You don’t have to spend all your hard earned cash to build your perfect space!
1. Change the position of your furniture for an instant room lift
Move the sofa away from the window and try that side table on a different side of the room. You’ll be amazed at how new a space feels with just a couple of moves of your key furniture! In large rooms this can be easier since you have more space to play with. For smaller spaces where everything already fits in snugly, try simply swapping the position of furniture to create a different space.
If you find that there is nowhere else to move furniture because windows and doors are in the way – try moving around the smaller things in your home or office like your pot plants, picture frames and ornaments to create a different look.
2. Liven up your chairs and sofa with some new throw pillows
Large furniture items cost a lot, so adding cushions to your couch or armchair is a much cheaper way to give them a lift! Use pattern prints to create atmosphere and colours to link other parts of the room like walls or carpet. Don’t underestimate the power of this simple touch to instantly change the feel of a room and create a homely feel.
Try our Reversible Cushions – they are printed on both sides so you really get 2 throw pillows in one stretching your budget and options further. They’re made from luxurious velvet-feel fabric making them a cozy addition to your space.
3. Use the power of smell
Refreshing a space is not just to do with how it looks. Fragrances can create increased alertness and positivity, feelings of calm, tranquility and relaxation. So try turning to your sense of smell to change the feeling in a space. It’s a quick and easy way to create atmosphere.
Air freshener plugins, incense and candles are all great ways to achieve this. Try our Vegan Long-burning Scented Candles in recycled glass jars. Our candles smell gorgeous and are sustainably made.
4. Switch out the prints in your wall art frames
We know that framed prints and artwork help to enhance a home and show off your decor taste. But what happens when your tastes change or you simply want a different look to freshen things up? Buying new framed art can get expensive. And what do you do with the old art when storage is scarce? Instead, try new prints and posters in your existing frames to change the look of your room quickly and easily.
Top tip: keep your old prints crinkle-free by storing them in the same frame behind the new print, ready to be brought back to the front when the mood takes you!
Check out our Posters printed on FSC-certified paper for a wonderful cheap alternative to buying framed art. Choose from either A4 or A3 and build a group of pictures to create impact.
5. Out with the old and in with the...old?!
After a while, some things in our spaces that we once adored might loose their sheen and become part of the furniture. They no longer "spark joy" as Marie Kondo would say.
Round up all these bits that no longer give you joy and take them to your local charity shop. While you're there, check out what's in there: Charity Shops are a great way to pick up a bargain and practice sustainability by keeping usable items out of landfill and supporting a great cause at the same time.
If you’re into crafting, charity shops can also throw up some gems to paint, re-upholster or combine together to create new lovable decor for your home. Upcycling, anyone?
Stay colourful!
